PS Plus prepaid cards not working, subscriptions cannot be purchased from the PS Store

Update #3: Customer service at Shop To, one of the few retailers no longer selling digital PS Plus subscription codes, issued the following statement in response to a customer query:

“It appears that with the new PS Plus Premium integration, Sony has temporarily disabled stacking of PS Plus subscriptions. This is due to players trying to exploit the rollover of subscriptions to this service. you attempt to use while you already have a current subscription will not be usable until mid-June or until the end of your current subscription.

“Don’t worry, all codes are valid and redeemable for up to 12 months after they are generated.

“If you have any other questions or queries, please create another ticket so we can help you.”

Update: #2: As has been mentioned all over the internet, it’s not just prepaid PSMore cards that have stopped working. Trying to buy a PS Plus subscription on the PS Storewhen you already have an active subscription, displays the following error: “Unable to purchase. Unable to add to cart. You have already purchased this item. This error is consistent across both the browser-based PS Store and on the PS5 itself.

Normally you will be able to purchase additional PS Plus time even if you have an active subscription, and it will be added to your existing subscription.

Based on what we know so far, it’s trying to give the impression that this is a deliberate stacking of bulk subscription ahead of the relaunch of PS Plus. However, at the time of publication we are still awaiting feedback from Sony.

Update #1: As the reader pointed out fuzzy monkey funk and corroborated by push square Sony’s support service seems to confirm that the company has disabled the ability to use prepaid cards PSMore cards to avoid the accumulation of subscriptions. It’s probably because PS Plus and PS Now subscribers will be upgraded to PS Plus Premium for the duration of their longest membership.

A support email explains: “I have checked the voucher and your account and can conclude that as of now there is a temporarily disabled feature for PS Plus / PS Now subscriptions that does not allow them to be redeemed. accumulate on already active subscriptions.

“This is only temporary and as soon as we have more information on this we will let our players know. For more information on our service’s re-launch news, please check our blog.”

As of this writing, it’s still possible to buy prepaid PS Plus cards from various major retailers, including Amazon. However, Shop To appears to have removed the product from its storefront.

Original post: Sony support is absolutely flooded with PlayStation 5 and PS4 owners who cannot trade PSMore promotional code. The problem – which seems to be more widespread in Europe at the moment but apparently affects consumers worldwide – prevents legitimately purchased subscriptions from being redeemed.

The error code reads: “The prepaid card could not be redeemed. Please try again later.” Wallet top-ups are working as expected, and we’ve seen some statements from Sony support employees suggesting that prepaid PS Plus codes have been temporarily disabled. All of this raises suspicions about the impending transition to PS Plus Premium where we reported overnight that those with active PS Now and PS Plus subscriptions will be upgraded to PS Plus Premium for the duration of their longest subscription.

In theory, there is no reason for a PS now and PS Plus subscriber couldn’t start stacking PS Plus today to secure a longer PS Plus Premium subscription at a discounted price. Of course, if prepaid PS Plus codes are currently blocked, that would imply that Sony is trying to close the loophole.

We don’t know that for some time this could be a technical issue, but we will contact the company and try to get some clarification.
